Guest Post: Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day! I was given the honors of posting on behalf of my friend (who wishes to not be named).

I have always thought about making guest posts for people, and some who I’ve asked have said no.  So if you’re interested in making an appearance on this blog, please feel free to use the Contact Me button at the top of the page.

Anyways, here’s what my friend thinks about Valentines Day.

It’s that time of year again. The day of getting drunk and consuming Irish beverages. Wait- wrong holiday.

I’m not a fan of Valentines Day. Does it benefit me? Do I get the day off? No. What about other people? Does it do anything good to help them? Once again, no. This “holiday” isn’t special nor meaningful, and it certainly doesn’t benefit the average Joe (see what I did there).

Valentines day is all about showing your love for your special someone. Is there anything that says “I love you” more than a generic heart-shaped box of tasteless chocolates or a “she’ll forgive you for not proposing sooner diamond ring”? Yes, there f$#cking is.

Showing somebody that you care about them isn’t an overpriced pile of unstable (yes, it eventually decays) carbon, it’s being there for them through the good and the bad. It’s doing the little things like cheering them up and asking about their day. There is no shiny rock, bouquet of decaying plant matter, or chocolate that you can give on February 14th (along with three billion other people) that will compare to taking your significant other out on a date once in a while, asking about their day, and faithfully staying by their side.

Besides, how does a day about love help the people who don’t have anyone to share it with? What about the people who just had their heart broken? They just end up being depressed and wishing the day would end sooner. Hell, some of them might even go as far as drinking their sorrows away.

And what about me? I simply just hate this day. Now excuse me while I go Irish up my coffee.
